    2000 GT, 152k miles
Daily driver, 400 miles/week, not too agressive.

I have a transmission that is slipping in 1st, from dead stop (started today).

Also, past 2 months, noticed long shifts, especially from 2nd to 3rd. Downshifts fine, 4th gear seems normal.

How much time do I have until the tranny breaks down?

I'm hoping it can go at least 2 more months.

WHY IS EVERYONE SO OPPOSED TO DOING A COMPRESSION TEST TO TROUBLESHOOT PROBLEMS?

Fluid levels and color are good.

I've been shopping locally for a remanufactured tranny.

    Found a place nearby, 1095 tranny + 375 labor + 60 for the fluid + 24k/mo warranty.

    Still shopping though.

With moderate driving I think I can hold out long enough til I save enough cash.

took it in, shop did a test drive and visual inspection of tranny and fluid (said it was burnt), but no code scan.

1675 total cost, 3yr unlimited mileage warranty.

slippage is somewhat intermitten, when given some throttle, it will slip/shudder.

mechanic friend suggest maybe to flush and replace filter, filter might be clogged, restricting fluid flow. about $60 DIY

bro im tellin ya...it sounds exactly like what my problem was...my fluid was burnt too.any reputable transmission shop will have a scanner and scan it for free.the epc solenoids are notorious for going bad in the 97-2002's if im not mistaken on years.i got mine fixed for 275.00.i doubt you will find a price that low cuz a friend of a friend did mine, but chances are you DONT need a new trans....im no trans expert just goin by what i went through.

Dude, If you have that many miles on it & someone will rebuild for $1675 installed with a 3 year warranty...GO FOR IT!!! Because as sure as the sun follows the moon, you're going to lose 4th gear eventually due to the non-hardened 4th clutch hub anyway. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with coolken, do the job once, do it right, and not worry about it for another 100K miles.......
