    Hello All,

First and foremost, thank you in advance for any input that you provide.

I have just made arrangements to pick up a transgo shift kit for my 05 GXP. I spoke with an employee of a local transmission shop today. My understanding is that I can drop the pan and remove the accumulator so that I can replace the springs in it.

The transmission employee stated on these cars that they have to drop the whole transmission to get at it. Which in turn makes a simple upgrade a costly repair. Is this true? I highly doubt it as from what I've read the accumulator is easily accessible once the pan has been dropped and the filter removed.

    Am I correct?

    Thanks

shop is full of it. all tho some kits come with parts for the VB that you dont need to install.

do it in your driveway on car ramps. aka free labor.

Yeah, my understanding is I only need to drop if I need to remove side pan and get at the valve body. Since I'm only doing to 1-2 and 2-3 accumulators I won't have to go after the rest just yet.

all you need to do is drop the pan, like your thinking. if your not into doing it yourself. find one of the many how to's here, print it out, take it with your kit to the shop. show them how to do their job basically. lol

keep in mind, some shops dont want to do them for what ever reason, so they make the price so high so you go else where.

the job shouldn't cost much more then a trans service.

It's called liability unfortunately. If the shop installs a "shift kit" in your trans and you go out and blow it up, then they have you coming back at them claiming they caused the issue by an improper install and want them to pay to have it rebuilt/replaced on their dime. When I worked at a shop long ago the boss was very clear that we were not to do anything to a vehicle that was not "factory", just for this reason. Kinda a CYA thing.
