I would call all of the trans shops until I found my parts.

Well in the meantime, Can I install the rest of the parts from my shift kit? I have the channel plate out and I can see the parts illustrated here.

    transgo kit huh.
Are you in hopes of making it shift harder or what are you wanting to get out of that kit?

But yes you can go ahead with the install.
Btw, I took a couple pictures of the trans I'm building at the moment. Just for reference.

And here is what the clutch pack and hub should look like installed.

I just want healthy shifts. Transgo has been a large improvement for downshifts, I'm happy with it. And yup, thats where the washers went on my install, one being broken. And that hub looks to be in just as far as mine, the clutches just didn't come out far enough. I already re-seated the washer, I'll have to test fit the clutches once more. Thanks for the pics.

This last pic is how all my installs of 4th have looked. When installing. Make sure the thickest steel goes in first, then the clutch, reg steel, clutch and reg steel. You can see the thick steel very well in this pic.

I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I'll make sure mine looks like that. If it doesn't, something's up.

I asked my instructor at my college where he'd go locally to buy transmission parts (They're GM people at my college) and he recommended a place not too far called Transtar industries, and said he'd bet they'll have what I need (he's rebuilt 4t65e's many times, as well as done exactly what I'm doing to mine with it in the car). They seem like a pretty good place, lots of things to offer as far as parts, rebuild kits, and reman. transmissions/TQ converters. I'll see if I can pick the parts up tomorrow.

Also, anyone know how to get the 4th accumulator apart? I cannot find out how anywhere. And I can't see anything obvious in pictures I did find.

It's just a press fit, so a few taps with a rubber mallet etc are probably your best bet.

And it somehow stays in on its own? I was able to turn it pretty easily. I thought there'd be a good amount of pressure in it when in use. Thanks

Alright I changed out the springs, and cleaned up the bore.

I notice that the disks that are part of the clutch packs have fine scuff marks on the sides that don't have friction disks. Did both sides come that way originally? Should I take a scotch brite pad to the other side of the metal disks and make them look like the untouched side? Kind of like how you're supposed to do that to the bores of the accumulator.

Are you talking about the steels that go in between the clutches?

Yes. It's kind of like a crosshatch on rotors, just not as deep.

I had to use rubber gloves to get a good grip on the accumulator.

The splines were pretty worn overall, and very worn in this area.

I got 3 new thrust washers since they were cheap. Well, the aftermarket ones were, the ACDelco one, not so much.

$1.39 for the cookie cutter plastic washer(large one)
$1.23 for the small plastic washer
and $12.38 for the ACDelco metal washer.

Not too bad, I'll be going back there when I needs trans parts.

Looks like you are ready to reassemble. Don't be afraid of using too much goop to hold the parts. It'll melt the minute temps come up .

I wouldn't bother the steels. Just make sure that Every thrust washer is seated correctly. And that the chain drive gear is in all the way. (That could be what is holding the cookie cutter out so far)

And I'll 2nd what bill said! Use it, if you've got it.

I'm just about to re-assemble, I've got the washers on and used plenty of "goop" The cookie cutter is sticking out just right. I put the new washer in and gooped it, and pushed it in by hand and it seated once, I hit it a little and it went in all the way.

The first time I inserted the hub, it was pretty hard to move. It got easier on the 2nd and 3rd time. The inner splines must have been a little banged up too. I've got it almost back together, I'm eating dinner now. I just need to put in the trans mount(I've got the bracket on the side cover already), sway bar links, tires, and I'm done. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

Maybe our impala will be my next project. The trans is acting weird in it. It's an 03 so it should have the newer designed EPC. But it shifts perfect, very quick and firm for the first 20 mins of driving. Then 1-2 shift will be pretty slow, but the rest fine. It will go back to fast on the next take off, and then back to slow again. After driving with it like that for at least another 15 minutes, eventually all shifts are pretty jerky. It's definitely not like max adapt, but the shifts get pretty hard.
