    Hi All,

I've just had my trans rebuilt and I'm still having problems with it. It was done by a relative who's been re-building transmissions for about 26 years now, we have been trying to figure out the issue together. I'll try and list all of the relevant info below, if I've missed something let me know.

    Symptoms:
-Indecision between gear on 3-4 shift. You can feel it while driving. Almost like a shutter. Between about 50 and 60mph.
-Hard shifts. 1-2 seams the hardest.
-More rare: On the highway, trans wont shift to 4th. OR, it will jump from 4th - 3rd very easily.
-Non trans related: Vehicle won't start without giving some gas. Or will start and bog out.

    Codes:
P0121 TP Sensor or APP sensor 1 problem
P0176 Input/Turbine Sensor Circuit out of range.
    P0717 No/Low Input/Turbine speed sensor signal.

    Temp fixes:
-Clearing the codes seems to work a little. Makes less likely do downshift or refuse to go to 4th.
-Unplugging the battery fixed the 'wont shift into 4th' problem.

    What i've checked:
-The TP sensor has been replaced with a new one, no luck.
-On a visual inspection the input turbine speed sensor seems to work (according to person who did the re-build).
-Wiring from the PCM to the trans (For obvious rubbing or ware).

    Car:
1999 Grand Prix GTP. Has a different torque converter (if it is relevant i will find out type). Tuned PCM and other stuff you can see in my sig.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Step 1, fix TPS. Might be a wiring issue. Check it, find it, fix it. This little bastid has a ton to do with how it shifts.

Input speed sensor, ok, search my name and "Trans info/links" In there is the resistance that the ISS should have and the pins on the 20 pin connector you can use to test it w/o pulling the trans. Unfortunately if you have no signal there, it's probably unplugged or there's an issue with the reluctor/sensor/wiring harness. All of these can be fixed relatively easily w/o pulling the trans by following the info I have in how to replace a 4th hub shaft, also by me.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Reread your post. There is no visual inspection for the ISS that would be good. Because you can only tell it's not obviously crushed.

Ohm it out and you'll find out if you need to go in.

    Hey,

Thanks for the info so far. I'll check your link in a little bit http://www.grandprixforums.net/trans...nks-42428.html

I just found out about the ISS test, they used a scanner and tested the RPM's that it was reading and it was correct. I don't know weather or not it is a viable test.

Lastly, i just found out the MAP sensor was reading lower voltage then it should .8 instead of 4.0-5.0.

I think my next steps are:
-Check the resistance (ohms) on the ISS. Correct info on this will be in the link above.
-Hook up the scanner, look at the TPS volts (on wot). Shake the wires and see if it drops. If it does then it is a wiring/connection issue.
-Also, see if there is a voltage change in the MAP sensor on shaking the wires.
-If no luck replace the MAP sensor.

    Sound right?
