    Hello,
just picked up a 2005 Grand prix GT 3.8l
    Has 90k miles on it.
If I do a quick stop it seems to slip out then slam into gear. All else is good. Fluid looks good.
Was gonna drop the pan and change the filter myself but such a messy job.
Saw a coupon for a 69.00 tranny flush. Tech said way better then just dropping the pan. Flushes all the fuid. He said the filter is more of just a metal screen.

Except for the stop and go hard shift(not all the time) The tranny works very well.
This is my 3rd Grand prix and also had a 2001 impala with a 3.8. Never experienced this one.
    Thoughts....
    Thanks
    Dennis

did this problem start after the trans flush? if so that shop just fvcked you in the ass so hard, cause they killed your tranny for ya.

even at 90,000 miles, if the tranny was never serviced good chance a flush could kill it. and that filter does a hell of a lot more then "just a screen" it needs to be changed.

if you had this problem before the flush, just so you know, a flush wont fix that kind of problem. something inside is failing. seal or solenoid wise most likely. only thing that may help is some lucas trans medix. sometimes a shift kit can help if your getting a max shift code.

Did not perform the flush yet....Getting ready to. or should I just drop the pan myself -install a new filter and fluid.

How much fluid to replace for a pan drop only.... 3 or 4 qts?

    Thanks

    thats good to hear.

pan drop is the way to go, takes 7 to 8 quarts to re fill it. re use the factory pan gasket. try a quart of lucas with the pan drop. so quarts of new trans fluid one quart of lucas, put the lucas in first. then finish filling it.

pick up two cans of brake cleaner to clean the pan and gasket.

if you want to do a shift kit, do it while the pan is dropped.

Thanks Scotty. Not sure if Advanced auto has shift kits. This is my daughters daily driver. Dont want it too agressive.

yup 7 to 8 quarts. she wont know its there if driven normally. makes the shift faster/firmer. saves the clutches in the long run.

Shift kits are bought online, a auto parts store wont carry the transgo shift kit.
