    my car has about 145,000 miles on it, If i went to a shop aand got the filter changed could my tranny die???? it also has hard shifts.

    Well changing the filter means changing the fluid. Just changing has the least chances of killing your trans. Just make sure they don't flush it. Sometimes they call it fluid exchange or change, but they really hook a machine up to it.

    fluid change is never, i repeat never going to fix a problem, if theres a problem it not because of the fluid. something else is wrong.

    if you have a code for that max adapt shifting, a shift kit may fix you up. if you install one you will also be doing a pan drop, so servicing will be done at that time. 8 new quarts of fluid and a filter.
