Hey guys my buddies gtp started to buck much like me regal did. He took it to a transmission shop, the tech there said he would have to replace the epc valve solenoid and the valve body. He got a code 1811. he was estimated 1200 dollars.

In my knowledge with these cars. when this happens you replace the tcc solenoid, the pressure control solenoid, and the epc. You don't have to even touch the valve body am I correct.

I contacted my local transmission shop about this they told me that replacing the valves alone would not likely fix the problem and its only like a 30% chance that it will work. Does any of this sound right to you guys?

for another 500 he could get a full re build.

mine did the bucking deal in 3 rd gear for a while, then i lost 3 rd gear. a used tranny was my fix.

well the car only has 130k on it and shifts like a champ, it was owned by his dad before he got it. the transmission still has loads of life in it. I guess what I am asking is if he was to just get at the side pan and repair the likely suspects would that fix his problem without replacing the valve body.

theres a how to for changing those sensors, the side cover has to come off the tranny. it can be done in the car, but its not one of them 100% deals.

Tell your friend to just buy my transmission. I drove the car it came out of so I know it is good. 40k original miles on it, out of a 98 GTP, has new TransGo shift kit, filter, pan gasket, and high temp Aluminum paint job. Was going to use it in my 3800 Fiero I was building, but I sold the car, and motor. $500+shipping

So the trans shop quoted your friend $1200.

For $1375 shipped to your door with new torque converter....and not to mention a warranty.
This is a what a "full rebuild" should really look like. Typically a trans shop only repairs the problem without thoroughly going through the entire trans inspecting and replacing wear items as needed.

EPC and pressure solenoid are the same. Most bandaid it with a shift kit.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
