I will be uninstalling my trans temp gauge soon.

When I take off the temp. sending unit, do I need to replace a plug on the top port of the trans? It was a few years ago I put the gauge in and I cannot remember if that goes directly into fluid. TIA

Yes you will as that is a testing port and it will cause a tranny fluid gusher if not plugged.

Does anybody know what I can use to plug it if I don't have the OEM plug anymore? I assume it is pipe threads but if someone has the specs that would be cool.
