Here is what I have, 01 Pontiac Grand Prix, 3.8 V6, about 135,000 miles. She is a well maintained car as far as fluid keep up and such, it's my daily driver and has been parked now for almost a week, so here is the issue..
On our way home from about an hour and half drive, there was a car broke down in the left lane with a trooper blocking it. Of course we had to pass to get in the other lane, which usually isn't an issue in the least if overdrive kicks in. Well, overdrive didn't kick in, instead the RPM's red lined. So now the other things we have noticed are that if you take it above 2500 RPM's, she redlines right away, no matter what gear, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. Not sure if passing gear is completely gone, because you can't take it to that level. I am not driving it because I don't want to blow out the trans, I have been out for 3 days car shopping, but just don't like anything but MY GP!
Sooo, before a dump a few grand into buying another used car, or replacing the transmission, what do some of you think this might be. Bad trans, or a trans component? Really need some help, I miss driving my GP and need it fixed. I am willing to take it to a shop for repair if the cost is $2,000 or less, I just don't want to get ripped and have it all replaced, or buy a new car if it isnt necessary. Thanks guys!
