    Hey guys,

My 99 gtp already went threw a built trans. Regardless im going to have a new one built.....

    Mods:

precision 67mm, Ported polished milled heads 105# springs, big Front mount intercooler, 65lb injectors, meth injection, stage 2 boost controller, zzp turbo headers, Turbonetics evo wastegate, Greddy bov, Xp cam , l32 long block from 05 gtp

I think im going to be able to reuse the input shaft, and torque converter from this transmission.

What parts should i make sure are in the new tranny? Im not the most knowledgeable in the transmission department.

I lost 3rd gear, and then shortly after 4th as well in this one, Thinking i blew up the sprag?

Anyways, i know these trannys suck, but what should i make sure she has in her to last as long as possible.

Talk with Dave at TEP, he is the man when it comes to transmissions. Very nice guy.

You said you blew a built trans. Where did the trans come from/built by and with what mods done to the trans?

    You want:
ZZP 300m or an Intense turbine shaft -
If possible, get your hands on a 1" GMR gear/chainset. ti's a million dollars and well worth it.
Upgraded valve body with modded spacer plate
    Stacked/clearanced clutches

I fully agree with talking to Dave. Send him an email with your mods, what you currently have in your trans and who is was built by etc. He'll know from that what to suggest. Also get some of the fluid he suggests, then tell him I said hi.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I'm seriously going to laugh my ass off if the built trans that blew is from the same place you guys recommend.

Theres nothing really to laugh about... If the tranny was built to match different mods and then turbo was added, or nitrous, or whatever, then the deal changes! And by the way, there is no Bullet Proof tranny, you're just hedging your odds against failure by addressing the power you might be throwing at the damn thing.

Nothing funny about blowing a tranny regardless... But I'd put my money with Dave any day.

A built tranny is a built tranny. Talk to Dave, ZZP, or Tim king they are all built the same regardless of mods. No one said anything about a built proof tranny because there is no such thing. The irony here would be people in the this thread recommending a certain person and that same person already had "built" his tranny before. Yes that would be funny.

It would be no different than someone asking for a good engine builder, me recommending a certain person, and the person I recommend built their last engine that blew. See the irony in that?

They are all not built the same. Not sure where you got that information from.

Of the ???? transmissions I had built, I'd suggest Dave's builds for being the most reliable and going the extra 100 or so miles to work with the customer. As well as working with people in the community that never bought a part from him. A reputation is earned.

My trans now (that blew out 3rd) Built by Bullit Transmission in Bay City Michigan, Chad the previous owner had talked to zzp and they told him all the parts he should get. The tranny was built for this turbo build 3000 miles ago, which is why i am pretty mad that ive had problems already.

    Going off memory:

Hardened shaft (i think the 300m)
    3250 Torque Converter
    7/8 chain
All clutches were done (not sure exactly which ones)
    Hardened 4th gear
    ZZP shift kit

Ill get the "correct" mods list, i have one somewhere

    No worries at all.

Tripleedgeperformance.com Dave Norris owns/runs the place and is very knowledgeable and helpful. He does a lot of turbo builds as well. A few of us have good relationships with him and have found him to openly tell guys what does and doesn't work in the various modding etc. Like clutches, certain clutches do work better in turbo setups.

If you don't mind my asking, what failed in the various builds? I'm thinking the 7/8" is a weakpoint for you.

    Agreed and curious myself.

Sucks man might have to try and source a 1" chain cause it sounds like you have maxed the horsepower level on the 7/8ths.

Do you know what kind of power you are making? How often do you beat on the car/take it to the dragstrip?

I'm only making 350ish whp and have a Tim king built tranny with everything you listed minus the stall. I have had the trans for almost 2 years with no issues daily driving it. But then again I don't regularly drag race or beat on it. The car at most sees 300 miles a month. And about 2 trips to the track during summer.

1" chains on occasion pop up in the classifieds on clubgp and can run as much as $2000. You would think they are gold plated or something. Did you figure out what caused the tranny failure yet?

you had said you lost 3rd gear. thats because under lots of g-force the fluid sits in the back of the tranny pan= clutches to burn out.

kevin at CT has a 1 inch adapter to go onto ur tranny pan to make the pan drop down an inch so you can have more fluid in the pan. \
what i had said may not be the problem, i could be wong but its worth a try ??

You have to email him. He doesn't have it on his website. It is a good quality part though, and helps these transmissions out a lot.
