My 2000 GTP will not shift into 4th or overdrive when it is cold (only 40 degrees out). It takes a good 5 minutes before it would finally shift. Please help? What do I do/what could it be?

Are you sure it's not just your torque converter not locking in? Mine doesn't lock unless the motor gets to a certain temp.

Mine just hangs in 3rd until over 5 minutes of driving. Then it will barely shift into 4th and OD.

4 th is O/D if you cant hold 4th gear, you've lost 4 th. the hub goes bad.

I'm sorry but I know NOTHING about transmissions. What does that do? and is it bad that it doesn't lock in?

It's not supposed to lock in until your trans is a certain temp.

You might have bigger problems then. Your 4th gear shaft could be stripping. Have you ever done a fluid and filter change?

It will shift into it fine after extensive driving as it warms up, but it just seems scary when driving and it hangs in 3rd while cold.
