Last year bought a 99 grand prix gt off my brother. it has about 185000 miles now, had roughly 170000 when i bought it. a few days ago, it started shifting really hard once everything heats up. I already replaced the filter, and that made everything ten times better. But it's not where it should be. Thankfully, I work just a few miles from ZZ Performance, and plan to pick up a shift kit this week (regardless if it needs this, i've read way too many posts on here about how good it is to not use one while i'm already working on the the tranny). Best I can tell from the symptoms, and what I've read on here, the PCS needs to be replaced. Is there a thread somewhere on this site that gives directions to locating, removing, and replacing the PCS?

This write up goes further than you'd need.

When it says remove wiring harness. You are at the soleniods and can replace the pcs only w/o removing the wiring and continuing. Basically use it to get the trans lowered and side cover off. Then the pcs is right there.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

i though i had a ray of hope last night to confirm what needs to be done. the SES light came on. i said to myself, "at least i can run a diagnostic and see what sensor is tripping the light." the light turned off this morning. my drive to work is short enough that everything hits peak operating temp just before i pull into the parking lot. and, yesterday, when it started acting up, it seems to be continually getting better.

You could scan it. There's three types of codes. Current, History and Immature. Immature is when it takes say 2 drive cycles for the light to to kick on.. well one cycle is considered immature. History..should be all history. Current..only stuff that has the light on at that second.

Current trans codes typically are reset with ignition off. If you want to scan them, don't turn the car off. If the trans shifted super firm/hard then that was P1811 aka the typically pcs code.
