I am in the middle of installing a Transgo shift kit on my '04 GT and I could use some help with the valve body removal process - specifically, which bolts do I remove first? I called Transgo and they recommended I purchase a Service Guide but that's a few days away and the car is all apart right now. I searched the web but it appears most people only install the parts that go inside the bottom pan. While I have it apart to change the EPC solenoid I would like to put the entire kit in.

Has anyone documented which VB fasteners come out first or could someone possibly scan me a couple of pages out of a service manual? I am also in need of the correct fastener torques.

    Appreciate any help.

If you are talking about pulling the valve body to replace the line and boost valves that come in the kit:

You have to remove the wire harness first, then the pump bolts (all but the silver one...leave that one!). Remove the pump. Then remove the pressure switch. Then remove the bolts from the VB. Draw a picture of it because the bolts are different lengths and need to go back where they came from...same with the pump bolts. The valve body should now come off. Watch out for the check balls! You do realize that you are going to need new gaskets for the VB right?

Any time the valve body is removed from a 2003+ 4T65E transmission you will also need to replace the valve body spacer plate with a new one from the dealer. Once you remove the valve body you lose the seal and the parts will leave impressions in the gaskets on the plate which will not properly seal if reused and can result in cross leaks and low pressure, definately not worth the risk reusing this item. The gaskets are glued on to the newer plates. You can grind them off but is not a fun chore to tackle and then you have a bare plate that you can use servicable gaskets with.

Thanks guys - looks like the car will be on the hoist for a few days. I will pick up a gasket & seal kit + order the spacer plate tomorrow.

I found the torques after some more searching as well.
