Whats up everyone some of you may already know I have a 97 GTP coupe and just bought an S2 IC, its going to be a while before I install and complete my build because I still need more parts. At the rate Im going and what I have planned ahead on my GP the mods are going to tear up my stock trans no doubt about it. So on that note I have a few questions. So let me know what you guys think. I already talked to a few members about what I should do, I just wanna here more options and opinions. If this ends up costing me to much and I dont feel comfortable with it Im not going to get into heavy mods and Ill just keep a setup that one destroy my stock trans as fast lol.

→ mods for the built I plan on doing in future not rushing:

    -GenV
    -Stage 2 Intercooler
    -XP Cam
    -P&P Heads
    -Pace Setter headers
    -Lucas 42.5# injectors
    -N* TB
-Valve springs Rockers etc.. (haven't decided on what ones im going with yet)
-and of course a Tune, Plugs, Pulley,T-stat, ZZP Fuel Logs, intake etc..

→ i was talking to another member and this is what he said he had:

    -Hardened 4th
    -4340 Input
    -Zpack 3rd
    -Hardened Clutches
    -7/8 Chain
(not sure what all this means but would this be a good set up for me?)

    → The Questions are:

~What should I do about a built trans? I was looking at ZZP, WBS, etc. but what I just checked out was Triple Edge Performance. I noticed they had kits but im not sure if I should go with any of them and just have a Trans shop throw in the parts (plenty of them around here).

~Im trying to avoid buying one from some place that is gonna charge me a $400+ core charge, wouldn't be easy for me to ship a trans across the states, and Id like to keep my old trans if I ever de-mod, and yes I plan on getting another 4T60E-HD to get rebuilt so Ill have a car to drive till its ready.

~ So where should I buy one from? Should I buy parts/kit and have a tranny shop throw them in? What setups do you guys have? and what did you guys pay for your transmissions/setups (if you dont mind me asking)

    Any help is appreciated!

I dont know to much about transmissions, so hopefully you guys can help me out and steer me in the right direction and to the best route possible for my build.

    Buy from TEP or else?

His valve body alone is worth it.

All of those parts are pretty standard but the Z pack is disco.

Good luck finding one. But ask Dave if you need one first. You'll be looking at low 300's for sure.

The Z pack was standard on Daves street/strip IIRC.

Since its no longer available, it seems he has a new solution as per his website.

Easier to talk to him about it.

The problem with letting any old shop put it together is that a perf transmission is built to different tolerances. Those guys only deal with restoring them to stock specifications and might not warranty the trans with parts you supply, no matter how much better they are than stock.

Search on Tim King here, you'll find his trans thread with contact info.

I have a TEP valve body/channel plate with the modded spacer plate. There would never be a regret buying another. From what I've heard about the 4340, I'd stick with a stock input shaft or the 300m/Intense turbine shaft. I've heard of a bunch of 4340 failures, they don't hold up to ZZP's claims.

Agreed on many trans shops rebuilding to stock specs. Thing there is our clutch packs have a lot of play in them with just a stock build. Thicker steels, additional clutches etc etc should be used to clearance the packs. That way you don't have the slop and additional wear during engagement.

You want someone that works with the 65 and understands it's various issues etc. Similar to you being on this forum for 3800 info.. you want a person that knows the 4T65 platform.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
