so, after about 9 hours, the amateur got his transmission out, not the fastest time, but defiantly one of alot of learning. Thank you all for all your help, went to partsource today (basiclly a autozone) and asked for a 3 foot extension and the kid looked at me like i had 3 heads

Ive never seen them in the auto parts stores. I have seen them in Harbor Freight, might even check ebay. Mine was given to me by a customer of mine. I was telling him about pulling the transmission and that there was this bolt I was going to need a long extension to get out(this was before I decided to pull both the engine and tranny). He went up into his attic, brought down this 1/2" drive three foot long extension and gave it to me. He stated he had never used it, probably never would and could not think of any use for it, so now that he knew where it could be used I could have it.

A universal joint for the extension, and the long extension itself. You'd be surprised how often a REALLY long extension comes in handy. Ditto for the 1/2" drive long-handle flex-head socket wrench.

I found your post from a search on the "...so I've decided to take out my tranny myself..." thread.

I've gotten my GP back from a shop that I didn't trust, and got a tranny to install. The car was reassembled enough to transport and roll, so I"m kind of in the middle of this job.
I have the engine properly suppored with a two-arm support bar, so I'm ready to tear into the job.
I read your instructions, but have what may count as stupid and obvious questions, but I'll ask them anyways.
    1) What about separating the struts from the hubs? That's not mentioned anywhere, and it looks like that has to be done.
    2) Should I remove the shafts? They are still in place. I"m assuming the shop had special tools, as I can't see that they disconnected the steering knuckles or the hub connections to the struts.
    3) Lowering the cradle. I'd love to get some detailed instructions on this, as how do you lower the cradle with a single jack? Alternate with jack stands?

I do have a Haynes (shop manual got lost in shipping, so I have to make do). It says to remove the shafts, but if there are things I can do to reduce labor I'm all for it.

    Any help appreciated.

    Sean
