Today it seams i have a major issue with my transmision. upon going to lunch my car had a hard shift from park to reverse. didnt think nothing of it, proceeded to head home and when i was leaving my house the car suddenly had no gears. car would rev not entirely freely but would rev with no movement. checked fluid level was a lil low not much but i added a lil with no change. tried all gears not a single one would move the vehicle. but if i rev it up a lil suddenly it would engage and jerk just momentarely but not stay? any ideas what could have gone out or possibly broke? trans was working fine til that hard shift from park to reverse!

Possibly the forward band broke. Is the trans. whining at all? What color is the fluid? Wipe it on a clean WHITE rag to check for sure. Could be a clogged filter too.

checked fluid color is fine looks to be like a dark cherry color. and it does not move even in reverse. no real whine and it seams like the pump itself is working when the car is off the fluid level raises and when it is on the fluid goed to normal operating range so i guess i am rulling out the pump itself and maybe filter i do have a new filter in my toolbox that i can throw in it but i suspect it might be something else just not sure what... its just so odd cuz it happen just suddenly nothing was really happening that would throw a red flag so to speak.

Noticed something when i got my car towed to my work. When i start the car and the engine is runing if i shift to neutral the car wants to push forward even if i shift it to reverse it still has resistance pushing forward.

Unplug the round connector at the top of the transmission and see if you get any movment, Assuming its a 4T65E. Sounds like what happened to me, and im in the process of swapping my trans right now.

If fluid isn't flowing...you won't have band engagement for any gear. Agreed on your assessment of the level and pump likely working. It's possible the input shaft broke, maybe the pcs stopped working. There is a port on the top of the trans that a pressure gauge can be hooked into.. when the car is running there should be pressure.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I unplugged the round electrical conector and the car wont even start. at this point the trans has to come out regardless and i am at my work right now getting ready to drop the sub frame and asess it from there

tore down the tranny and found out that the front planetary assembly was shot. looks like the bearing between the two main parts exploded and the needle bearings then took out the planetary assembly
