Hello all, I am new to this Forum and hoping for some good advice. I have a 1998 Grand Prix GTP Daytona 500 pace car. It will hold back on a hill for a short distance , then kick out as if to nuetral or shifting to a higher gear. I can engage the throttle slightly and the transmission holds back again for a while. I changed the fluid and filter, and also installed a transgo shift kit while I was in there but it did not seem to help much. I suspect some electrical problem. The trans does not slip in any gear under hard throttle, but I did notice the performance shift light will no longer come on. Any Ideas?

What do you mean by hold back?

Are you talking about sitting at a light and letting your foot off the brake, then the car rolls back a little.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

    Irrelevant highlighted.

These cars do not hold on hills for the most part on the stock tune.

When I pull the trans back into second on a long incline to maintain a lower speed without riding the brakes, it will engine brake the car for a short distance then drop to around 1100 rpms as if the transmission has disengaged. a quick blip on the throttle restores the engine braking for a short time then it will disengage again. Not sure what is going on as I have not worked on too many new style automatics.

You REALLY shouldn't do that. -- Our transmissions don't like it...Just use the brakes.

I guess I should be glad it does not slip considering the transmissions reputation
