I just noticed while coming into work today that GP was running at 3400 RPMs and not shifting into OD. I've got about 170,000 miles on it, and it had a junkyard tranny on it when I bought it at 83,000 miles. So I'm not shocked that it's gone. I just don't know if it will be worth it to have the transmission rebuilt. I can't do it myself, as I don't have the tools to lift the engine and transmission out, so I'd either have to find someone local to help me out, or have a shop do the work. I'm all for DIY, but for this I'd rather have it done in 2-3 days than the 2-3 weeks it would take me.

The other option, of course, is to just sell the GP. But I'm using the GP for a newspaper route now, and I don't want to use my Impala because it doesn't have a resonator. Not to many people would be happy to be woken up at 3 in the morning by a car moving slowly through a subdivision delivering newspapers. And I can just pay the money to fix the tranny, or I can use that money as a downpayment on something, but then I've got a car payment.

Since you are a DIY'er.. it sounds like you are sitting in 3rd and likely the splines on the 4th hub shaft have stripped out. Here's a little how to that doesn't require a hoist or lift.

Don't know if I'd have the time to do it, but it sounds like I won't require a rebuild. I just having some internals plates replaced?

Likely it's just the 4th hub shaft.
