Lets make this thread about a shopping list for those who want to keep the original tranny but rebuild it with some decent parts. Not a full out but a middle of the road type deal.

Links with cost would be great. I'll add to the first post as we go along.

    Transmissions

Even on the standard rebuild high quality parts are a must.

He doesn't even recommend the standard build with boost though.

    Keep that in mind.

Also skimmed through a tread on a bonnie forum where the guy did it himself. Cost him just over a grand in parts/tools and many hours.

The way I did it was to follow Andy's (BonnePro post doing yourself) info. Then I went the rest of the way for a full build.

Had Dave at TEP do the valve body/channel plate service ~$400
    Got the Master kit ~$200
Got the seals (higher miles should do them) ~$?
Got Single 3.29's chain and gearset
Got the bushings and didn't need them
Got the stator bearing (you should always do this)
For my build I added an input shaft $450
Then I put in an HD converter, usually a new regular one is fine

My total ended up around $2200 You can easily get tha lower by getting the normal converter, skipping the chainset for V8 chains and not doing an input shaft
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I would do just a rebuilt converter, looking for a used input shaft, already have HD Diff.

So you say v8 chain but they run 2.93s, will that work on a 3.29 set?

And valve body rebuild, what if you wanted to do this in a weekend?

Used input..you know where to buy one.
The chains run any gear ratio. Total number of teeth between the two gears is 70. 2.93's 37/33, 3.29's 35/35 3.69's 33/37
In a weekend, pay the core charge, send yours back after the swap.

Doing this work in a weekend..daunting. Rebuilding over a week/weekend and swapping another weekend. Possible.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
