Well I'm about to tackle into fixing the 4th gear shaft in my 01. I'm getting all the info to do it off of here (thanks btw).

I was wondering, should I put a shift kit in it while I got it apart? Is the kit really worth the hassle? The car will remain stock...

I had thought about full rebuild but the kits I seen are pretty high priced and this trans does good it just don't have 4th.

The shift kit is very easy to install even when the transmission is in the car. It's basically just a spacer that you put in the accumulator.

I throw a shift kit in it while i had it all apart anyway. It's pretty simple and only takes about 15 more min than a pan drop.

the trans in my car is a used trans, it has the hardened 4 th gear and a shift kit. trans has about 130,000 on it or so.

when driving around normal you don't even know its there, but in perf shift mode, it shifts like a bear. the rest of my car is all stock.

Any ideas at how much fluid I will need to replace after the 4th hub and the shift kit?

8 quarts or so i'd say. Maybe a little more.

In case you didn't find this guide
    http://www.grandprixforums.net/how-t...ess-54448.html

I like to have some extra M6 x 1.00 thread about 80mm long bolts hanging around. If you did..say have 4 of them with the heads cut off it would make this easier because after it's apart, you can use them to hold the gaskets in place and guide the vb/channel plate back onto the properly place. Makes it much easier.

Expect 10 or so quarts. Totally dry our transmission will take 13 quarts. Doing a typical pan drop you'll only lose about 7.5 quarts. If you have it open etc like you will for doing this.. expect 10 quarts.

I'd do a shift kit while in there. It's a nice addition to help a trans live longer.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
