The Tapshift transmissions are specific for using this feature and have a different valve body and channel plate to accomodate this. The tapshift models have a valve to regulate pressure in manual 2 and 1 to its not so brutal. Non tapshift transmissions run near max line pressure in manual 2 and 1 ranges for extra holding power for engine braking where shifting isnt used regularly.

I temporarily made one for my 97 4T60e, but it was real violent, and I don't recommend repeating. Don't think anything I can build will work with the 4T65e, as there is a lot of feedback to the PCM from the transmission.
    The GPs are long gone...

i really like the tap shift, i'd hate to have to trade for a comp G or something.

If you've already got a lot into your car, it might make more sense to get the appropriate tranny, along with all required components, and basically make it a comp G with tap-shift. That is one of the things I was thinking I might do if I ever get to a point where I can make my GP a pure project car, and not just my daily driver.

Not worth it IMO. Sure you may play with it a few times, but then you'll never use it. Not worth the money to install it on your car or trade your car for a CompG. Besides, in the 1/4 a built/tuned tranny auto shifting will do better than you manually shifting the whole way, I can just about guarrantee it.

That is most likely true... but God I just love the looks of those little paddles on the steering wheel...
