Don't know if this counts as a stupid question, but I'll post anyways. My wife's 99 with 216k miles blew a trans recently. The original lasted 171k, the rebuilt lasted 61k.

I wasn't willing to spend another $2k on a car with this many miles, so I got the car back from the garage (w/transmission removed and in the trunk), and I plan to buy a junkyard tranny and see if I can't get another year from the car. I'm in OH, so maybe Cherry Auto?

Anyways, I need to get the front of the car in the air, and I need to know the best places for jacking. I do have a jack with a long arm, so I can get the car in the air a good distance.

So, best places for jacking, and any tips for getting the transmission in? I'm not going for hp or anything here; just putting a stock transmission in?

    thanks in advance for answers

Just jack up in the center of the craddle just behind the radiator, larger front frame section you cant miss it, and then put jack stands on the frame section of the floor just behind where the craddle bolts to the bottom of the car. If you look under the sides of the car just below the front edge of the doors you will see a pinch weld with some notches in it for using the vehicle supplied jack for changing tires. Look about 10" in past this area for the supports in the floor and put your jack stands here to let the car sit on. If you are looking for a used trans in Ohio then I would call Morad Parts Company in Cleveland as they are probably one of the largest suppliers for parts for these cars and I know they have plenty of transmissions. Their number is 216-671-3736

Thanks! The x-member looked beefy enough, but it's always good to verify.
