My 06' GXP left me stranded in the country... After leaving an unnecessary stop sign in BFE I was climbing a small hill and began losing traction. She slipped to the crest then caught traction near the top barking the tires and emitting a loud clunk. I coasted to the first farm house. They now have a yard ornament on a car dolly. A freezing drizzle turned the roads into an ice rink. I was lucky to get the truck home. I'll be headed to IN Monday with a present for Dave. So if you see a red ford pulling a black GXP on a trailer, its me.

I bought the car new in 06' before the 'employee discount' and before the '100,000 mile warranty' She's got 111,000 on it now. I was gonna trade it in before this happened. Kinda vested now.

I'm happy it lasted that long also.. The first 40,xxx were HARD miles. I've had to feather the throttle leavin stop signs and 1-2 shifts for the the last 10,xxx miles. Sucks that the Z-Pack is no longer.. Hope the High Energy clutches hold up well. Raybestos makes a new, badass, clutch that comes with a 5yr \ 100,000 mile warranty. Thats a bold statement for a clutch. Supposedly it made with the same material the Z-Pack used. They don't have a set listed for the 4T65E though. I emailed the company but haven't heard back. Might try to call the directly tomorrow.

    *UPDATE*

It's been awhile since I've logged on. Thought I'd share the happenings.. I dropped it off with Dave Saturday the 18th of February and picked it back up the 11th of March. I told him to take his time, it's not a daily driver. After disassembly he filled me in on what he found:

"Your input shaft snapped, 4th gear clutches were a bit warped from slipping, 2nd was really bad and some of the friction material was completely gone so it was steel on steel, 3rd has been pretty hot from slipping, Manual band was burnt (common on tapshift models) Looks like a good worn LS4 trans to me! Also I noticed the front lower engine mount is ripped in half, just wiggling around. Do you want me to replace this?"

    I now have:

    -TEP Street/Strip rebuild w/3.29 ratio
    -Upgraded input shaft
    -Zpack 3rd
    -TEP custom trans cooler
    -New radiator
    -New starter
    -New lower motor mount

I love driving my car again! At 80MPH comin home I was runnin 2400RPM. Its a whole new animal. Temps got up to 180* at one time after playin with a mustang but dropped back to 170* soon after. It no longer feels like a stock trans. You feel 2nd gear hit, Tapshifts are instant and it pulls harder with the gear swap. I couldn't be happier with it. If you need a trans, go to Dave.

That's a lot of carnage! Glad to hear she's back up and running, and even better than before. I need to learn how to rebuild one of these damned things. I have to baby my Gtp to keep from destroying that trans and sounds like the GXP is gonna be almost as bad...

IMO an ideal trans temp is below engine temp. My old LS1 would see 200* so as long as my trans was below 190* I was happy. The GXP runs a few degrees cooler. Above engine operating temps, I'd worry about the trans. Due to a bad tune from a douche bag that shall remain nameless I saw temps above 240* on my way to BGPM. All down hill from there. Flushed the trans every 30,000 and it was black everytime.
