Alright, the little woman's 01 just started pouring out fluid. She said she had felt the car slip taking off from stop light. She had went about a mile turned a corner and car would no longer move. (Loss of fluid) When I got there to wait for tow big puddle on the ground. Had car towed home. Today went and got some fluid to put in tranny. Could not find leak by just pouring fluid in. Had her start car while I was watching underneath. Took a second to start but when it did, it come pouring out from the bell housing dust cover. That tells me converter seal went out. But my question is how and why did it go out? And there has been some whining noise for about a month. I understand the tranny will have to come out. I have never been into auto transmissions, I have rebuilt motors, rebuilt steering and suspension, fixed broken synchro and gears in manual trans. but have never messed with auto. If a rebuild is needed how much is typical for rebuild outside the car? I am almost thinking of getting another and performing my first rebuild myself. I have one located for 200 bucks that is supposed to be working. If i get the working used tranny what typical things would you do before reinstalling?
Your time, advice and expertise is very much appreciated. Thank you.
