I'm a big fan of trans cooling and have no qualms about putting one in. If heat is the number one killer of automatics then I'm all about cooling. I have heard some talk, however, that the stock 04+ GP trans cooling is sufficient for mildly modded cars, so should I bother on a bone stock 05" GTP before I begin modding or can I wait until I'm making more power?
I was also thinking that an aftermarket cooler would possibly help KR because instead of having hot trans fluid pump through the radiator it is seperately being cooled, so it would help the normal engine cooling by not having that extra part of the radiator being filled with another hot fluid. I noticed the trans cooler on my mustang lowered my normal engine operating temperatures by a few degrees, so I figured it would benefit my GTP for future modding.
Separate question, would a shift kit and ZZP 1.0 PCM help reduce trans temps at all, raise them possibly? I would think that the less time the trans is soft shifting the less friction build up occurs and therefore less heat, and the increased line pressure, would that effect heat at all?
What about the aluminum pans with cooling fins, is that more of just a hype thing or does it actually help? I would get the pan simply to have the benefit of a drain plug, but I was just curious if it actually helps to dissipate heat better than the stock units.
