102k miles 06 Grand Prix Base Automatic

Last night it was pouring like crazy and I was stuck in traffic for an hour (bumper to bumper) then all of a sudden shifting from 1 to 2 i felt a jump then from 3 to 4 a light jump. It happened the whole time driving then I checked my transmission fluid temp and it was at 217F. Finally I got home, let the car rest then started the car back up 2 hrs later and the transmission was fine. Today, the car drove good too and the transmission fluid stayed at 175F. Do you think I need a Transmission fluid flush or is my trannny going out?

    thanks

I would get your tranny fluid flushed, and the transmission filter replaced. That is usually the cause of rough shifting like that.

Oh...I would take it to a transmission shop and have them look at it. You will need to go there anyways, but I would go there as soon as you can in case it is something worse.

A GM Mechanic just told me that you should never flush your transmission fluid after 75k miles...huh?

Clearly that guy is an idiot. If you car needs one it needs one. You need to get that filter replaced, and at least have a partial replacement of transmission fluid. The rough shifting could be caused by gunk in the fluid. I would not be going to a GM mechanic dealer. You pay a trillion times more than you need to, and this guy is useless if that's what he insists. Have you ever had this done to your car before?

I think that what you were feeling shifting wise was due to the higher fluid temperature. There are different tables the computer uses depending on the fluid temperature. Just do a pan drop and change the filter along with new fluid.

Alright. I would certainly go to a tranny shop..a place the actually specializes in this stuff. The fact he said to not have this done after 75k miles is very scary. It would be even more vital in the higher miles to get it done, if you want to take proper care of your car. Also they could tell you if it is anything worse.

I would never flush a trans in a car ever. Do a pan drop and filter change.

I personally wouldnt flush a tranny past 120k. There is stuff that builds up in there that yes its bad that stuff builds up but in the end it holds it all together and once you flush your tranny it can end up ruining it....if that makes sence. I had a buddy flush his tranny at 145k last year after i told him id be a bad idea and his tranny has never been the same ever since. it now sucks

Polished Gen V, 3.1 mps, intercooled, S1X cam, northstar tb, and Tim King built trans with 3.29s and all the good stuff

    Brenglen,

I agree with Fraschy, take the vehicle in for service. If you are having problems with your current dealer, you may want to call a different one. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

That is the thing..some people don't recommend it because it MIGHT do more harm than good..whether your car has higher miles or not. But neglecting to take proper care of your car isn't any better. This is why you take it to a trans shop and have someone who really knows what they are doing do it.

check your fluid if its real red and smells clean i would flush it, if its darker looking, and smells burnt, just do a pan drop and change the filter.

being that you just got the car and don't know its maintenance history, i would just do a pan drop and filter and call it better than it was. maybe add a trans cooler to help keep the trans temps down while in traffic too.
