i have a 99' GTP with 168K miles on it. heres my problem the trans wint shift into OD unless i get the RPMs over 3000 and i let off the gas a little bit. If im slowly accelerating at like 2100-2500 RPMs it wont its weird because like 3 weeks ago it shifted fine. i was wondering if its a problem with the performance shift or something? or maybe something else?

OD goes out in these tranys often. I've read that is has something to do with an unhardened part on fourth gear. Maybe a pan drop with a new filter would help but I doubt it. I had a 99 GTP that I bought with 4th already gone and just drove it that way.

well isnt this killing my gas millage? i mean you should never really be above 2500 RPMs if you want half way decent fuel economy

If you drive on the highway yes it is going to hurt mileage big time.

if i put it up to 3000 RPMs give it some gas then let off a little it kicks into 4th gear and drops down to 1500 RPMs like it should

Does it hold in 4th going up a slight incline/hill? If so, that's not the hub.

it does hold 4th gear up a hill theres no sliping on any gears and it doesnt shift hard i think it might be the shift kit sticking, like when i have the shift kit off it stays engaged somehow sometimes when its at like 2700 RPMs i turn Proformance Shift on then off it drops it into 4th gear

    LOL..

So if it won't go into 4th, you kick perf off and then back on and it'll drop right in huh? That's funny to me because I have had that in my car (192K miles). I've chatted with Dave and some other trans shop owners on the subject. No one has much info about it, potentially sloppy worn out valves in teh valve body.

In my case..my trans is pretty shot. Fluid looks like muddy million mile engine oil and well.. yeah. It's bad.

In my case..yes I drive that way because I've built a new trans and it's waiting for me to make time. Which likely won't happen til this trans quits.

In your case. It's tough to say. i'd do a filter and when you are refilling the trans..add a quart of Lucas stop slip.
