I have a 99GTP with 200k miles. I just started to notice my rpm's are 3000 when cruising along at 70mph instead of the normal ~1900. When I let off the accelerator the tach needle drops to ~1900 immediately. Then when I slowly push the accelerator again, the tach shoots back up to 3000.

Is this the infamous 4th gear spline issue detailed in the Triple Edge Performance website? Ive looked through several threads and cant find an exact match to this problem. If this is it, I need to decide for myself whether it will be cheaper to have a shop replace this shaft w/splines or just buy a rebuilt unit. Thanks for any help!

It sounds like a bad 4th clutch hub.

It's possible to replace just the shaft. Thing is ..it's about 3-6 hours of work. And then..what's the condition of the clutches etc. If it were my car, I'd replace just the hub, because labor is free doing your own work.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Does the clutch hub include the shaft and the clutches? Looks like only $40 on ebay. Is this it?: http://www.ebay.com/itm/4T65E-97-4TH.../330558555231?

ebay item number 330558555231 if the link doesnt work.

That's not a bad price if this is the part you are talking about. Just need to find a shop to put it in for me.

that's the one and no, the clutches don't come with it. Just the shaft is technically what GM calls the clutch hub shaft.

You'll also need a set of channel plate gaskets.

Hmm. Sounds like it might be time to retire her and pass the work on to someone else. Sensors are starting to go bad quite often too and I am having trouble finding time to fix them. I just replaced the fuel sending unit last week and the MAF a couple of months ago. Other things are: bad hub (ABS lights always on), vacuum leak somewhere (code), low coolant sensor needs cleaned/changed/unplugged, headlights so foggy I can hardly see 20ft in front of me, rear view mirror losing dimming fluid, rust spots, etc. I know I am not making a good sales pitch if someone wants to buy it, but you guys already have GP's anyway. Maybe for parts (if they are still good). Thanks again!
