I have a 98 gtp, it began shifting in and out of 3rd & 4th gear repeatedly, I had no choice but to keep driving it. It wasnt causing a big problem, it just had the rpms fluctuating. I figured it had to do with the CPS sensor i had to replace. But the day i bought all the parts to fix the CPS, It lost 4th gear. It would shift to 3rd, and then stay there, if i let go of the gas it would just drop down to idle. Very wierd. Now after parking it, And just letting it sit until i figured out what is wrong with it, i started it up. about a week after parking it. I took it for a drive around the neighborhood just to keep the battery and altenator alright, And next thing i know, it shifted into 4th gear...Wtf? Is it messing with my head? hah.
Now ive read that it is most likely a solenoid. is this the case?
Also, It was shifting really hard. but this was only around the neighborhood.

Sounds like your 4th gear hub is pretty well stripped. And shifting hard is from shavings from the hub getting into everything.

I checked the pan, there's no metal in it. And its still red tinted and doesnt smell burt at all. It looks perfectly fine. There's no codes, ive gotten it checked, Only one i have is the cps code. I want to get it checked again since it started working again. ill probably do that today

Do this..get it to do the issue..and don't turn the ignition off. Have it scanned w/o turning it off.

Many trans codes will store in history and not stay current after an ignition off. And most cheap scanners only read current codes.
