Have a 2006 GP, i can let it shift into 1st gear before i give it gas, or i can be in a rush and get a nice thump. Does it in stop and go traffic also. Anybody have any ideas.

Most likely you have a bad mount.

I was thinking it just felt like the tranny. Are they hard to change out?
