You're definitely going to have to remove the engine and transaxle from the car, and replace the trans.

I lost 1st and 4th and it was a shorted solenoid. It blew a fuse so I would check fuses first. Go to triple edge performance for error codes and trouble shooting the tranny. He has a lot of information listed.

Either find the soleniod grid on Dave's site or look for a post by me "trans info" There are links in there that have the trans soleniods listed. I'd say it's a soleniod issue as well.

Thing there is.. it may be a wire leading to the transmission. You'll want to double check the pins and connectors/wires before going at the trans itself.

If you need to go into the trans, you can do it w/o pulling it out. Dropping the subframe and lowering the drivetrain a bit, you can get the cover off the side and change the soleniod and or internal wiring.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.
