Ok so I have a good working transmission out of a 97 gt.. 4t60e and I have a bad transmission, well at least I think it's bad.. It's in a 2001 impala.. I don't have any forward gears at all.. Only reverse.. Ok so my question is can I take some parts out of the 97 trans and put em into my 2001 trans to make it work again..

I would like to trouble shoot the existing problem anyways so any tips or tricks let me know

No offense but if you dont know the answer to this question I highly doubt you have the special tools to remove the parts from the internals of your transmissions and swap them out. Again I don't mean to offend you.

Not sure there but I think some of the internals are the same. You'd be better off rebuilding what you have

Well lol I do have the tools.. I'm jus a noob on the trans.. I've never swapped or worked on one.. And no offense it's guys like you I don't understand people gather knowledge and the tools when they come to projects like these.. So what's a better time to learn..

ok well strange enough i might as well just call it shot but im just curious if anyone can kinda name a reason as to why i was able to drive the car around the block in 2nd gear AFTER i held the rpms above 3k for at least 30 secs before it went.. it felt like it was a manual transmission, it felt like i was slowly letting off the clutch and eventually grabbed and took off but would slip in and out.. kinda feel like the TC but i have reverse with no issue

Ok guys so i made my mind up.. im gonna attempt to rebuild it myself for a few reasons
    -save money
    -learn how it works
    -im entertained by this ish

I don't plan on putting tons of power to it so building it up isn't an option for me..

I plan on grabbing this video and the overhaul kit in a couple days

These trannys really arnt that hard but if you dont have prior mechanical knowledge like rebuilding atleast an engine i wouldnt try tackling it unless you can buy yourself a jy trans and in which case you should probly just do anyway and then tear into this one and use it as a backup or throw it in once its built.

Honestly what I'll do.. I'm gonna just tear into this one and if its to much oh we'll ill just buy a trans.. The forward band is out anyways.. I have enough mechanical knowledge to say the least.. I'm going in confident.. But don't we all lmao
