What are you guys running for aftermarket trans coolers? Size, mounting location, etc...

i just got this one, havent put it in yet but its 26,000 GVW, which is what is recommended. i plan on mounting it behind the grills attached to the ac condenser.

Hi Ryan, I have been working on a cooler kit for the LS4 cars that uses a bar and plate style cooler and all AN fittings and lines. It is not the cheapest but is by far the highest quality and works very well. We have a few options for coolers depending which route you want to go.
Any more information on that Dave?
I've been looking at external setups myself.
We have AN fittings that will work in all variations of the 4T65E case as far as cooler line connections to the case go, so you can eliminate the factory lines completely and also not have to cut and splice anything for running strictly just an external cooler. If you want to run the radiator and external transmission cooler you can retain the stock trans cooler line from the transmission to the radiator and then we have fittings to converter steel line to AN line so you can run AN line from the radiator to the external cooler and also from the external cooler to the transmission.
I like that idea a lot better than cutting and splicing the stock lines. Any benefit from running external cooler + the radiator rather than just the external cooler, or is it just a matter of preference? And I know AN fittings and lines aren't cheap, I'm curious to see the prices on this lol.
running the stock cooler helps warm up the fluid in the winter via engine coolant.
Since Dave is rebuilding my transmission, I've also been looking at transmission cooler options. I do have the upgraded radiator in the car though, I don't know if I should just run an external cooler and eliminate the one in the radiator, and if I do that, which cooler I should go with.
Just out of curiosity, for the 97/98 cars (screw in type trans lines), what size fittings would be required to thread into the trans case if you wanted to do AN lines?
The early feed and return fittings are 1/4 -18 pipe thread. There are no checkballs in either of these fittings since you have an earlier model so you can use AN adapter fittings straight into the case.
Thanks for the info Dave. I'm about to do the 97/98 lines with Intriuge 98 as well. Since the old Bonne trans was a 97.

Trannyman95's coolers sound real good! I have been running dual 18,000 GVW coolers behind the grilles and in front of the A/C condenser-they are Long double stack coolers and are run external from the radiator-no radiator cooling. In the winter, the only difference is that the tranny does not shift into overdrive until I have driven about 2 miles-this on the coolest of days. I have had the coolers for 2 years this way with zero issues. If I was to do it again, I would run 1 28,000 GVW Long cooler instead of the 2 18,000 coolers I have now. The first time was trial and error. I did cut both tranny lines into the radiator and can both be put back with hose clamps and a very shrot piece of rubber hose if necessary.
Thanks Dave for the info!
