My stock trans is a bit finicky and I'm looking to upgrade it so I don't grenade the thing when I put DR's on it and hit the track. I'm making about 320whp on a cam/GenV setup...

I'd like to go 3.29's and I'm trying to decide between the GXP chains or a 7/8th. Any ideas on that or other options?

7/8ths is the way to go for longevity.

7/8" chain will work just fine with DR's...if your going the slicks route or turbo...a 1" GMR or equivalent will work for something like that.

I'm confused as to how it all works... does the chainset determine the gear or is there some kinda big mechanical thing that goes into place?

the sprocket size determines the gearing. in a 2.93 gear set the drive sprocket is bigger than the driven sprocket. In a 3.29 the sprockets are the same size. The chain just determines how much horsepower you can run before stretch/break.

So do I have to buy a chain specifically for one or the other? Or just the different sprocket and be good?

When you buy a chain set it'll come with sprockets if you're swapping to 3.29. Talk to Dave at Triple Edge Performance - Home Page He'll hook you up with the necessary goods

While I'm in there would it be necessary to get the stronger input shaft? I'm not trying to build a race car but I'd be pissed if I got the new gears and then broke my input shaft.

At your mod level based on what I see in your sig, I'd say it would be worth it since you're in there.

Listen up Flakey guy.. Stop starin at the transmission on my shelf. Although I really have no current use for it. I "might" consider selling if you made a reasonable offer.

You definately want an Intense turbine shaft or the 300M shaft. Don't go 4340, from everything I have heard/seen...I'd use stock before 4340.

On the chain(s), the gearsets all require the same length chain(s), however the gearsets dual/single make the chains somewhat unique to the gears. I could use the same dual chains to do a 2.93 or 3.29 setup in my new trans. But the 7/8" is not going to fit a set of gears for the 1" chain. You are going to hear about the 15/16" sooner or later, they break. 7/8" stretch if you pound on them, 1" is godly and currently not available. You being a stoplight kinda guy would love a 3.29 7/8" setup. (yeah it's in that trans)
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I have no idea what a reasonable offer is on that trans, lol. Tell you what though let's try and break it down... now IDK if this is reasonable but it makes sense in my head. Disregard it if you don't agree...

The major parts in the trans cost new...
    300m Input shaft $450
    3.29 and 7/8th $300
    Valve body $300?
    Complete overhaul "Master" kit $200
    Hardened 4th $60

Am I missing anything? You're in about $1300 on parts, and the trans has been used. In a really heavy Bonnie with a LOT of power lol
Now the best I could do right now (well not even RIGHT NOW but soon) would be like......

$1000 bucks cash plus my stock trans that's fine? I mean I don't even know if thats reasonable like I said... but it's what I can logically come up with.
