i have an 03 grandprix gt . the bearing is gone for the output shaft on the transaxle. I am wondering how to change the bearing, do you need to pull the tranny? the transmission still shifts good only you have a vibration.
any tips or suggestions would be appreciated

Which bearing are you referring to? There is a bearing on the drivers side that the inner CV/axle rides in and on the passanger side the inner CV/axle rides inside the differential, which rides in a bushing in the tail housing. If either of these is bad the axle seal will leak. I rarely ever see the bearing on the drivers side bad and if it came apart you would likely have fluid pouring out pretty good while driving. The passanger side isnt normally a problem either and the bushings can wear quite a bit before causing problems. Neither are items I would blame for a vibration. I would definately check tires first as broken belts can cause a pretty bad vibration. Next make sure the axles are ok and wheel bearings arent coming apart. Also check suspension compenents, especially lower control arm bushings. Putting the car on an alignment rack can also help isolate where a problem is to cause a vibration.

its the drivers side, the tranny leaks a little bit but there is excessive play in the the shaft, you can move it up and down and all around

The inner cv hub is not a very tight fit and will move around a bit but shouldnt be a lot. Have you removed it to inspect the bearing? It is a pretty small bearing that has needles on the inside that the cv hub rides in. If the needles are still there then the bearing isnt your problem. There really isnt a way to do this in the car easily as there isnt a good way to remove the bearing.
