hey guys i'm having an issue with my shifting and my speedometer. I will be driving and then all of a sudden the speedo will go up and down and basically tweak. Next, it will suddenly drop to 0 and the tranny will shift into first. I can be doing 45 and the tranny will be in first and the speedo displays 0. Sometimes the speedo doesnt go all the way to zero, just tweaks and goes back to normal. Any ideas? vss maybe?

having the same issue still, although sometimes the tranny isnt affected just the speedo. The car is also starting to have sudden outbreaks where the power level just seems to drop and come back... i hear the heat turn way down the lighting all dims and twice the radio has shut down. My car has 75k on it and i recently put in a sub system. Any ideas. Faulty wiring? fuses? alternator crapping out? i donno what to check as i cant replace everything to find out with low funds

The output speed sensor of the transmission is what the pcm uses for vehicle speed to command shifts and what gear the transmission is in. If this signal drops out then it will cause the trans to downshift when it shouldnt. You can pull the speed sensor out fairly easily and inspect it. If your differential is going bad there will be a lot of small chunks of metal on it. You can also check it with an ohm meter to make sure the sensor electrically is ok. If the wire harness is damaged anywhere from the sensor to the pcm that can also cause your problem. The speed sensor is located on top of the passanger side of the transmission near where the passanger axle goes in and has a two wire connector that plugs into it.

For your other problem I would definately check that your power wires did not get effect from the stereo install. Ignition switches are common to go bad in these cars and can cause some of what you have going on but I would make sure all of the wiring that was added is not causing any problems.

ok thank you ill try to locate the sensor tomorrow. So would you recommend removing it and testing with a multimeter, also what values am i looking for? As far as the electrical problems, my car was suffering from dumbassownerhandtightenbatteryterminalandforgets syndrome haha so it was an easy fix. i'm still having the speedo problem though. Also it would make sense if it's a sensor because the hud craps out too not just speedo. As far as the source of the problem... coincidence or wat did my install do? Any wires i could have tugged running my power wire or something?

i finally figured it out. I took a look at the pcm and there were two chafed wires that just happened to be associated with the sensor and/or tranny. Wrapped them bad larrys up and good as new.
