    Hi all,

A few days ago the alternator went out in my wife's 98 grand prix gt and it died down the street from our house because the battery went dead. I jumpstarted it and when she shifted into drive the car would not move at first, then went into gear and she got it home. I put a new alternator on it 2day along with a new battery and that fixed the charging problem, but now the car won't move at all in Drive. It works fine in reverse and if shifted into 2 or 1 it will move under light throttle. Any ideas what could be wrong? It sounds like something inside the tranny is bad, but it puzzles me that it only happened after the battery went dead.

I took the car to my work today and put it on the snap on scanner (I work at a toyota dealer). Found no dtcs in system but found during function test that I can make trans shift into every gear but 1st. I'm thinking internal trans issue.

sounds like what is going on with mine too, kinda... No Forward Cold

As for the timing of the alt and trans doing it at the same time, it's not unheard of for things to go wrong at the same time. Last month my fuse box went bad, ignition switch, and I ended up replacing all of my solenoids in the tranny, all at the same time...
