I have a 97 3800 SC GTP. When driving it occasionally will slip out of 4th gear. Barely noticable if not for the Tach. Doing about 70+ at about 21-2200 rpm's it will jump to about 3000 rpms. Does not always occur but does occurs when everything is warmed up. Any suggestions on what this COULD BE? I searched the forum found alot about not going into 4th. Not anything like this.

    Is this the original trans?
What is the milage on the trans?

I see two possibilities. One the clutches are worn out. There's only a couple frictions for 4th. Or the hub shaft is nearly ready to stop giving you 4th.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

its most likely what happened to most of the trans in these cars, the fourth gear input shaft is getting worn down... eventually it's going to give... i would start saving up for a new trans...

It is possible to replace just the 4th clutch hub. It's a decent amount of work, but overall low in cost.

yeah you could just do that but it's best to just get a complete rebuild done.... it does have 120k miles on it
