So my car will not shift outta second gear every once in a while until i shut it off and start it back up. I stopped at Advanced Auto and had it scanned and came back with the code P0740 torque converter clutch malfunction. Im a member over on Grandprix.net and was referred to here hoping to here from the all might trannyman. All input is appreciated.

    That is a tranny code.
    Tq convert clutch malfunction.
My friend you are on your way to a rebuild.

If your lucky it is a short in the wiring harness and you can replace. Might as well do an overhaul

P0740 will set if the pcm detects either a short to ground or ignition voltage on the TCC apply wire when not commanded. Check all of your fuses first to make sure you dont have a bad fuse, there should be one for TCC which is a feed wire off of the brake pedal switch. Not shifting out of second shouldnt really have anything to do with this code but if you have a pcm going bad or some bad grounds then that could explain both problems.
