hey everybody. i have a problem with my trans, its a 01 gtp. one day the trans started to whine, the next it was occaisionaly slipping in 2 through 4. next it was all the gears. after that it was every stop. now it does this occaisionaly. i usually will have to restart the car every 4 miles (highway) also sometimes it will shift from 1st to 4th and lock up the torque converter. and at the time of all this happened the car started to hesitate and stumble. and still does that every other time. could this be a computer problem?? or is it definatly the trans?

It sounds like you have a solenoid problem and your first step should be to check for codes. If you dont have a means to do this most auto parts stores such as Autozone will read your code for free. The description is often generic info but write down the code numbers if any and post them back up.

The code readers that parts stores use may not show any codes in history and you may need to take the car to have it scanned while the problem is present or have someone with an actual scan tool check it out. If nothing shows at that point then I would have a transmissions tech diagnose the problem and scan the car to see what is going on.
