ok guys, my grand prix has 71k miles on it and has never had issues before (it's also an automatic 2002 gt). All of a sudden when i was driving home today i was doing about 30 and when i gave it gas it just didn't shift and my rpms just kept going up. I took my foot off the gas and it shifted. Thinking i was just being paranoid i tried accelerating again... this time the tranny made a clicking noise. Recently ive installed a stereo, HUD, front and rear speakers, and wired a 3 plug thing into the power drop. Is it possible that any of these could be messing up the computer or something? What else could it be?

Haha I was in a rush it's like 3 cigarette plugs and a USB port that plugs into a cig lighter. I cut off the end and hardwired it. The fluid level is fine and it's all of a sudden working so I think it is electrical

i doubt that would have anything to do with it. could be a number of things. get it scanned at a reputable shop. even if check engine light isnt on. codes can still be in the PCM and not set off light with trans issues. could need a filter, solenoid, etc etc.

this is true, which a vacuum leak could cause TPS issues.

Vacuum leaks won't cause a position sensor to read incorrectly.
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

I was thinking it was the tps also but I got it scanned and although he couldn't tell if it was in the right range the tps was definitley responding correctly. I talked to a gm tech and he said it could be an airflow problem so I am going to check the maf

And as a follow up to my first post. The symptoms kind of change with the day and is why I'm thinking it's some sort of sensor issue. When I give the car a little gas it will go smooth for the most part and other times the rpms will wobble then shift. I'm I gun it instead of down shifting and taking off, it stays in the same gear, sounds boggy, and of course not take off.

i seem to remember something about a tsb concerning driveability problems but mainly with an aftermarket air filter (oil from the filter getting on the maf sensor) so it wouldn't hurt to clean the maf sensor

Ok I'll have to try that. And for the first time I can say I am very happy that the chEck engine light has come on so I can get it scanned in the am.

i cleaned the maf sensor and it runs a little better but still not back to normal. im sure cleaning it would have improved performance even if the car was normal. Also i got the car scanned and came up with a po410 code... secondary air injection fault. I was thinking the air pump... but how could that hurt my performance this bad? maybe a clogged cat?
