so i started having an obnoxiously loud squeak coming from my driver's side axle assembly today on my way home from work. it sounds like it's coming from the axle boot closer to the transmission. the half shaft itself seemed to be revolving as well, instead of just rotating. it's definitely not brakes, i had the pads out and it was still squeaking. the entire axle is like $50 so i was thinking about replacing the whole thing, as it seems there's no real way around it anyways.

so, in the interest of saving money, is there anyway to do it at my house and not pay a mechanic? or possibly any other part that could be bad? i was thinking maybe bearings, but like i said, it really doesn't sound like it's coming from the hub.

that looks useful lol. i sprayed a bunch of wd-40 up in it last night and the squeaking stopped. i'll probably still replace it but it might be able to wait a paycheck or two, what do you guys think?

IN the boot? I would change it asap, if there is no grease in the boot you do not know when it will finally go, when it does your car will not move because all the power will go to the wheel with less resistance. A prybar also works good for popping the axles out.

more like where it goes into what i'm assuming is the transmission. i'll probably order it soon anyways, might as well not put it off. i need a couple valves to rebuild a head off of another motor too, no use paying shipping twice
