Okay, Ive been searching around on this forum and others to get an idea what is best and want your opinions and see what others have used.

I want to drop the pan & replace the filter and am leaning towards the M1 full synthetic. (Not the multi-vehicle) Supposedly it's M1's best fluid. But there is a lot of discussion about Dex VI and M1's is a synthethic blend.

I was going to get a shift kit from ZZP, but have read that the one from Intense is much better, so I'll probably wait until the next change.

The car is an 00 GT with the 4T65E.

While you're at it, what filter would you suggest? I was thinking a WIX, but am open to amy suggestions.

    TIA

Honestly I just run the autozone filters. I'm in the transmission often enough and I replace the filter when I'm in there every time. I'd go with the Dex 6

Thanks. Any particular reason for the Dex6? I'm just curious and trying to learn, so if you could expand on your thoughts about it, it'd be good.

Dex III is what is in form the factory I think and just over the years the fuild has become better. Dex 6 is just better. It a very good product and works well with these trannys.

Okay, thanks. Yeah, I read somewhere that it had DexIII, which makes sense as it's 10 yrs old. So you'd stick with Dex6 over the full synthetic, too? I like that better, pricewise.

It sounds like the full synthetic is (or was) considered DexIII but it's not as clear from the website, etc.

Thanks for the help! I've got to do this in a week or so, that & plugs, maybe wires....depends on funds, which seem to be missing lately.

I stick with dex 6 just because its trusted and its kinda like one of those "if it aint broke, dont fix it" kinda deals.

As for the plugs and wires. I would just do the plugs, because the wires should be just fine unless you happen to break one. I only did plugs when I did mine. For me too funds are kinda tight because of college coming in the fall. I am only doing smalls things to the car aswell.

Dex 6 is factory rated for your transmission...who would know whats best than the people who engineered your car. I believe if I'm not mistaken that the DEX line is full synthetic

I just switched to Dex VI with 123K on my tranny...... no probs here. Also took 8 quarts to do a pan drop... you could be more or less, but thats a good ballpark to run with. I just used the ZZP filter, which is made in china, which you'd prob get at the parts store.

And if your going to do the shift kit, this will help, and save you some $$.

You can also ground pin-21 to engage "performance shift" on your GT... worked on mine. here But I didn't wire it up to a button, so its on all the time.
Its just a car.......with rust and dreams for the future!!!!

Wow, this site kicks ass. Thanks for keeping me straight, lots of good ideas. I've got some reading to do!

So, no takers on full synthetic Mobil 1 ATF? Just curious. Dex6 syn blend is way out in front, so unless others chime in, that's what it'll be.

Speaking of reading, one of my buddies from the ME4X4.org club has an Impala SS, late model, and suggested I do a tune from these guys. Seems like a good price. Thoughts?

    Get this shift kit.

But a proper tune helps more with how these trannys shift.

Run Dex VI, its more than good enough.

Good to know. I guess I've got some research to do before I buy, which is a good thing, because the wallet is light.
