I live In Houston, Texas but I am writing from and have been be in Austin for the past 4 1/2 weeks.

I have had my 4T65E HD MN7 recently rebuilt. There had always been a slight shutter at launch that was barely detectible "as long as I babied the throttle pedal" all the way through the 1-2, up shift. Also, a little more recently, "DELAYED REVERSE ENGAGE, AFTER GEAR SHIFTER CHANGE". More recently, "NO OVERDRIVE", possibly also "NO FOURTH". This was all true before the rebuild of my 2000 4T65E HD XBB. The rebuild came from an individual who came "highly recommended" by my mechanic, Evan McDaniel, named James (I know).

My transmission was out of the car for 3 weeks, (awaiting parts to arrive). There were long periods of wait (sometimes 3 days) between call backs and when James finally did call back, the responses that came were short and sweet, "IT'S A SPRAG", "Waiting on parts to arrive", …ect. I spent much of my "down" time looking over this site and reading various postings and familiarizing my self with some of the regularly posting members. I have come to trust the Trannyman95 from reading multiple postings by him so if the Tranneyman95 is reading, I could really use any suggestions and or directions, please help, lol.

There is still a "BAD SHUTTER" starting at launch through 1st gear and all the way to the 1-2 up shift. The 1-2 shift also seems late (at no greater than 4500 rpm). No shutter though, from 2nd gear up, but the 2-3 up shift, seems late as well (at no greater than 4500 rpm). In fact, on one occasion, the 2-3 up shift, still had not arrived at 4500 rpm and had to back off, “just under” 5000 rpm, so it that it would never be in danger of redlining at 5500 rpm.

I was charged $460.00 down to cover parts and I paid the balance to pickup the car $1,300.00, on total completion of the work, $1,760.00. Please help! Does this sound like normal post rebuild behavior for a 4T65E MN7 XBB. Am I just being an unreasonable customer? If anyone has comments and \or suggestions they will be appreciated and graciously recieved. Please don't be shy if you think my driving could be the problem or even part of the problem. I really feel the need for resolution of this matter, one way or another and I want to get it right. Thanks for reading!

You could probably reach him faster at this email if you already havent. Good luck. I never let anyone work on my stuff for this reason.

I finally read all of it and it sounds like the guy screwed up the rebuild. Take it back and demand it fixed or your money back. You dont have to deal with this, you have a receipt if they dont want to fix or refund, take it to court, you will win. They did not fix the problem.

I drive mine like hell all day and all night rebuilding it myself and never had any problems.

Update: I took the car back to Evan (my mechanic) who did the tranny R&R (only). I got the call about 2:00pm today, that the shutter was resolved with new plug wires.
There had been earlier talk that the one of the 3 coil packs were suspect. I am still more than a little bit concerned about the shutter at half throttle in all gears and the late 2-3 shift (once all together missed the 2-3 up shift),

We'll see tomorrow! Updates will follow as they are available.

No 4th is most likely a stripped 4th clutch hub.

Short answer is the trans rebuild was done very poorly.

    Ask him these questions

    1) what valve body work did he do and what sensors did he replace (make sure you ask for exact specifics and write it all down)

    2) Ask him if he replaced the input clutch piston and if not asked him if he addressed the inner lip wear issue and how he did that.

    3) Also ask him if he just did a standard clutch pack configuration with all new frictions and newsteels.

Report back what he tells you, but make sure he is very specific on the valve body. When you post back I'll see if he addressed all the major concern issues that should be addressed with a rebuild.

Will do also, if my memory is correct 4th gear (and Overdrive) were last to go.

Thanks for the play list, JJ91284. I wrote it all down 1, 2 & 3. I will use the questions to take notes and report back here. (I'll know more when I pick the car up this afternoon and drive it).

supercharged99gse... i had this problem before and it turned out to be a vacuum leak. which will throw a TPS code.. check all vac lines especially the T boot connector under the SC snout.

Thanks gtpinsc for reading and the reply. I appreciate the tip on the vacume leak near the T boot connector under the SC snout. My mechanic, Evan suspected the plug wires and replaced them. He says that's all he did. I picked it (2000 GTP) up yesterday. So far so good. (No more shutter). If the shutter returns or the 2-3 shift misses even one more time, it's on. , lol.

I'll check the T boot though, just in case, .
