My 2000 Grand Prix SE 3800 with no warning simply will not move. I verified that the shift cable is moving the arm on the top of the trans. But no gears forward or reverse even warm. I assume trans failure, though when I parked the night before it seemed fine. The next morning, there was nothing there.
After talking to some friends of mine that run a shop and are very familiar with GM products they started their shop years ago when the Buick dealership they worked in closed. They told me they felt something broke inside the trans and my best bet would be a replacement. Their sources (a trans shop and a salvage yard) told them I had to have a specific coded 2000 model year only transmission.
I have access to a 97 GP GT that was wrecked in the front end and the engine used in another vehicle. I can the get the remaining car including the trans for a reasonable price ( I need interior parts as well ) From what I read here, the trans will work as long as the trans cooler lines are retained from the 1997 model car. Is this correct? Is there any other reason why this would not work? Like a computer control issue, etc.?
Any and all assistance is GREATLY appreciated.... Thanks in advance!!
