do these trannys have a tendency to whine through 2nd gear? Mine whines till 52mph than the shift and the whine goes away...I do need cv axles but would that whine be linked to shot cv axles? this is my first front wheel drive so be gentle...only does it with 3/4 accelerator load, if i baby it less audible but still there...

but yeah, the whine you hear could be bearing wear in the cv joint.

Are you 100% sure it isnt from the engine? I just finished up a trans in an grand prix GT and it seemed to have a whining noise the same time you are mentioning, it will make the 3-4 shift around 45 mph so make sure you are referring to this shift and not the 2-3. Regardless once the car got over 50 mph the noise was gone, well sort of. The trans was not the culprit and was coming from accessories or an idler pull on the engine. It was a fresh trans and I replace the bearings that are common to cause noises so I knew that wasnt the cause. The engine made the whining noise even sitting still while revving it so you may check that with the hood popped to verify. If your noise is not coming from the engine then you could have a bad bearing inside the trans causing your noise OR your geartrain is ready to bite the dust. These transmissions have a semi-common problem with the geartrain wearing and causing noise and that could also be suspect to your noise.

What I do to determine a trans whine as opposed to a power steering or whine from another source is ...obviuosly you know the noise you are trying to hear, so take off slow and let it upshift. Now when the noise goes away downshift your trans to 3 or 2 depending on which gear it goes away in and if the noise comes back manually upshift it up a gear and see if the noise goes away this way you can determine if it is realted to what gear it's in and not what speed it's at, or rpm.

What is your deal????? I really would like to know why your are on here posting. You must really like to disagree with everyone that posts. I would also like to know why you are on here trying to tell people that Dave doesn't know what he's doing and that he is ALWAYS WRONG!!!! He has been working on these transmissions for years and this is what he does for a living!!! If you don't have anything usefull to add than don't post!!!!! You have really ticked me off and I have kept my mouth shut for as long as I could but this last post really did it!!!!

I must agree with 2Fast4U here! This has happened far to many times and I think Syn has even warned you before of such behavior. Not sure how many strikes this is, but it has to be getting high in the count.

I hate saying it, but if you can't say anything constructive? Then maybe you might just need to shut up?

I don't want to get in the middle of any drama, all i'm here to do is give my opinion. I'm not sure if those comments were directed towards me, and when you get to know me... you'll realize that all I state is my opinion and my ideas. I never say my way is fact and the way it should be. I believe we are all here to get ideas and help on fixing problems we run into. If I cross the line, I apoligize, but my opinion is we need to grow up and fix cars, because drama doesn't get cars fixed in this industry.
I just read that and It makes me sound Like a redneck

I hope you aren't including yourself with those that know trannies, because you have no credibility here.
