Re: a way to brighten your day...
Here's the thing with a trans service. Two categories of people, the people that service them and the people that think oil has no detergents and doesn't break down aka the non-servicers.
I used to fall into category 1. Never service. A mechanic buddy of mine explained it simply. The trans fluid has detergents and friction modifiers in it. There is also a filter in the transmission, similar to our oil filters. Not doing the service is the same as not changing the oil in your car. It gets dirty and no longer performs it's job.
If you have high miles and have never touched the trans, then a flush isn't for you. You want a pan drop, filter change service.
I never have a trans flushed, because it costs more and they usually don't change the filter. Filter is key. About 1/2 the fluid is changed when you pan drop.
Re: a way to brighten your day...
i use the BG machine at the shop to flush my trans. BG covers your trans if it fails because of the flush. ive thrown plenty of debris into my pan. only when you accomplish this will you achieve greatness:.....

Re: a way to brighten your day...
Im kinda confused? i have the same problem as yours much many people tell me not to do the flush. What should I do?
Re: a way to brighten your day...
pan drop, change filter, refill with dex VI or some other quality synthetic Dex III.
Re: a way to brighten your day...
I did a pan drop and a change to the filter... I don't know what they put in, but it still jerked.
This is just what happened to me.

This is VERY confusing. You're saying you did the pan drop, made a change to the filter in there, then someone else put fluid in? :th_thumbsup-wink:
Re: a way to brighten your day...
lol sorry,
I mean I took it to a shop and I was watching over them. They did a pan drop, emptied the fluid, put a new filter in, put the pan back on, put new fluid in it and I drove off. I don't know what kind of fluid they put in it. It started jerking so yea..
Re: a way to brighten your day...
Sure the fluid was at the correct level? Check it after you've driven for say 15-20 minutes and park the car somewhere level and keep it running.
Re: a way to brighten your day...
Well this was about a year and a half ago. It's really weird because it used to jerk non stop for about 3-4 months and then it continued getting smoother and smoother until I couldn't even feel the jerking. But another wierd thing is that whenever I accidently "reset" my car, as in disconnect the battery, it would start jerking again. In a month, it would smooth out again. Due to my bad ignition, the car would reset every once in a while and start jerking again. Now I'm fine, it doesn't jerk to much unless I don't let it warm up.
Re: a way to brighten your day...
means its worn and the PCM has to adapt to this and smooth out the shifts.
Re: a way to brighten your day...
That's what I thought too. What is exacly "worn" that your reffering too?

Re: a way to brighten your day...
Ya thats just a mixture of old tranny fluid and metal shavings from the trans. Some metal is always normal, thats why theres a magnet. But when u get big chunks like in the pics above you got a problem...
