its not really stronger... its the same hd tranny that is in all other gtps. it does have 3.29 gears though. and the part that is hardened in the gtp tranny isnt one that tends to break. At least from what i have been told. and thinkin more about it, the comp g tranny's have manual valve bodies in order to work with tapshift, so im pretty sure they arent compatible anyway.

what one would u recomend is the best for the top swap? im not trying to have a real fast car. i just want something with a little more power than what i have. im still going to be using it a daily driver.

How is your transmission now? I mean if its not doing bad then I say throw a shift kit in it and change the fluid. GTP transmissions have 2.93 gears so you'd need to swap your 3.29's or purchase a new set. I say stick with what you got if it not broken.

my transmission works great....my car is is top running shape for a GT...ive put almost a $1000 in the engine a couple months ago redoing all the gaskets and putting a new radiatior and a tranny flush...ive never had any problems with anything but an oil leak but i just like to keep up on what i got...i was just under the understanding that i would have to change my whole transmission when i get the top swap...why would i have to change the gears in it.....is that just for torque?

you want a 98+ transmission. that is 98-03. they are all the same and they will all break the same unless you build then. i would suggets a non-hd transmission for the gearing and then swapping the hd diff into it. if you REALLY want to make power, get a built transmission from dave at TEP.

No, the valve body is different and the computer could not control it.

when you had a working tranny was the tap shift a convenience or just another thing that can break?
