I was driving back to school and i stop at a light and when i gave it gas it went no where! I put it in 3rd... nothing...2nd... nothing finally 1st and i crept over to the shoulder. I put it in park and turned it off hoping that would fix the problem because it has fixed other problems in the past, turned it back on and put it in drive and give it a little gas and all it does is rev as if it were in neutral. Reverse works perfectly fine. After a few minutes of trying to get it to work because it was early in the morning and all my friends were not awake to come help I figured out that if I put in 1st then start moving then shift into 2nd then 3rd and then 4th it will work but between 2nd and 3rd it slips a little. Also i can start it out in the selector that says 2nd and it will work but not D or 3rd. And another notable mention is if i give it too much gas in any gear it just revs and doesn't go anywhere. Any ideas on what is wrong???

Forward band in the transmission could have given up the ghost.

Yep it definately sounds like your forward band is broken. There are several threads on here about this problem and the trans will act exactly as you mention. You have to be very careful accelerating with the shifter in 1 or 2 range from a stop because since the forward apply band is broken all you have is a skinny coast band in the trans that has less than half of the area to bite and you can easily burn this up and lose all forward movement. A broken forward band means a full rebuild to replace it as the band is one of the last parts to come out of the case during a teardown.
