hi all, well a month or so ago i had a whine after i flushed the trans ( should have just changed the filter and fluid ) well i was told then it could be the pump. i think trannyman hit the nail on the head! well after the whine ran its toll on the trans it started to quiet down,im thinking good right....no, it was the worst thing that could happen. i went about 20 miles got to my destination put the car in reverse and i knew i was in trouble. i put it in drive and still knew i was in trouble. i shut the car off. a little while later i got itn the car and put it in reverse and it seemed fine. then i waited about an hour and got in it to leave driving easy. no known problems except i knew the car didnt seem to have near as much power. i knew it was the trans. i stopped in the area a mile away and visited for aboiut 25 minutes then left, well when i got in the car this time i was crossing my fingers for home, i noticed a lil slip on start off, then i noticed it wasnt shifting out of second gear. so i knew not to drive on the freeway i took a road that speed was 40 m.p.h. once in a while it would shift into third, and then down to second, then it kind of stayed in third for a while ( 4th gear hub was stripped from previous owner ). i get a couple miles from home and there was a traffic back up so i stopped put it in neutral then traffic started to move and im not. i shut the car off for a few seconds, started it then drive and it caught, i pulled thru the alley, lost gear, shut it off, restarted it and it caught, basically i drove it home for about foru miles this way and made it. now all i have to do is leave the car idling for a few minutes and it will not move, restart it and it catches. i know i can hear something i assume with the pump. or something. I NEED HELP DETERMINING WHAT IS WRONG, AND IF THE TRANS CAN BE REPAIRED IN THE COR OR WHAT MY NEXT MOVE IS, I CANNOT EVEN FIND THIS TRANS ANYWHERE EXCEPT FOR SOMETHING OUT OF MY BUDGET. I AM MECHANICALLY INCLINED AND I HAVE CHANGED TRANNYS B4 ONE IN MY OLDER GRAND PRIX 3100. cap lock was on. i dont understand where the pump assembly is, is it like in the valve body or is it like behind the tourque converter???? any info will help. i do believe my clutches are fine in this trans, i always felt this car seemed "heavy" so somethingf is telling me to just scrap the tranny and get another one thats used..i dunno any ideas??? o and then i am told that only my year tranny will work. also i have a service manual for my old 93 gtp 3.4 dohc. its a 4t60e which is similar if i need any help.

What year/make/model is your car? The pump whine is a result of other problems, NOT because the pumps itself is bad so replacing that is likely going to do nothing at all for you. I have seen these scenario several times and in every case it meant rebuild. You could try replacing the filter and see if it helps but unfortunately the damage is done where it was good before the flush or not and this is exactly why it is advised not to do a flush on a higher mileage transmission and why a pan drop for a filter and fluid service is the safest route. Rigth off the bat I would check trans fluid level. This needs to be checked with the engine running, warmed up, and shifter in Park range. I have seen numorous times where a customer had a trans flush done and the fluid level was never checked after the service was complete and it was drove off the lot 2 quarts or more low on fluid. Then conveniently the shop that did the service will deny this and holds zero responsability for the damage. I only suggest the filter because of this- IF your fluid level is fine then the car is likely losing its power because the filter is heavily contaminated and causing a big restriction in the filter. Removing your exising filter and cutting it open for inspection will verify this. Unfortunately installing a new filter is only going to at best allow it to work ok for a short time. The debris that clogged the filter came from somewhere-often TCC lining in the torque converter or clutches that are falling apart-and it will keep collecting in the new filter. You are very likely looking at rebuild or replacement.

yes trannyman, everyone is telling me to repair/rebuild this tranny and i dont like it. the fluid level is fine, about two weeks ago i noticed it doing sumthing around corners so i checked the fluid and it was a half a quart low, i added and seemed fine. the car is a 2000 grand prix gtp produced in feb. of 2000. the fluid does look nasty again. i flushed it once, changed the filter twice it was clean, now it looks nasty and maybe a lil burnt but my car has not ever gotten to the 210 degree mark. so maybe debris is blocking the cooler??? i dunno but i always felt like the car was heavy and its not the brakes because i did go thru the brakes and did replace a caliper when i first got it, i kno the girl that had it b4 me did blow up the engine from overheating, and also the caliper was probobly stuck on her and she kept driving...she messed it up bad and like she didnt know what she had. i have rtalked toi a couple parts people and they tell me that only a 2000 tranny will work. is this true??? i need all the options and all the help i can get. thanks for reading my posts man i kno u r busy on here with all the trans issues.
